What Exactly is Cica?

What is Cica?
The ingredient of the week is...Cica! Why all the sudden buzz about a three thousand year-old plant extract? Skin care, like fashion, comes and goes. What’s old is new again. Centella Asiatica (aka Cica) has been used in skin care products for centuries. If you’re a skin care junky (like us), you’ve probably reaped the benefits of this amazing little plant without even knowing it.

Tiger King? No…Tiger Grass!
The most well-known name for this anti-inflammatory botanical bud is Tiger Grass, but you may also recognize it as Gotu Kola. Rich in asiaticoside, madecassoside, Asiatic and madecassic acids, Tiger Grass earned its name because tigers roll in Centella Asiatica to heal wounds on their back. Why do tigers have wounds on their backs? We’re not sure, but tigers instinctively used this soothing and healing plant, and we think that’s pretty cool.

Cica is the best Collagen Booster for Wrinkles
Antioxidant-rich Cica is more than just a fun story about tigers... there is also hard science to back up it's purported evidence. Cica is a very effective Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP)-inhibitor. MMP is an enzyme in your body that attacks healthy collagen. That’s right- the MMP in your skin is degrading your own collagen as you read this! Talk about betrayal. Cica works to inhibit this mechanism and help restore collagen levels. The result? Firmer skin and less visible wrinkles and sagging.

Cica is Great for Sensitive Skin
Cica is also an amazing healing ingredient because it strengthens the skin barrier. Your skin barrier is an invisible shield that prevents water (moisture) from escaping, keeping your skin hydrated. Like a shield, it keeps the good stuff in, and the bad stuff out. Your skin barrier also prevents allergens, germs, UV and toxins from entering (and damaging) your skin. Cica keeps your skin barrier strong and healthy so it stays moisturized and free of the kind of pesky intruders that lead to inflammation.

The Best Cica Serum
Advanced Clinicals Cica Serum is a potent yet lightweight hydrating formula that you can use morning and night. It’s infused with antioxidant Green Tea and Honeysuckle extracts to protect and nourish collagen levels, boosting the efficacy of the Cica. Plus it features a probiotic ferment which actively protects against discoloration and wrinkles. If there is one serum from Advanced Clinicals we recommend trying, this would be it
